What does the JSON Viewer do?

A JSON viewer shows JSON as a collapsible tree so you can read nested data without scrolling through brackets. Paste JSON or open a file, expand the branches you care about, search for a key or value, and click any node to copy its path.

How to use the JSON Viewer

  1. Paste your JSON into the input pane, or choose Open file. You can also drop a .json file onto the page.
  2. Expand and collapse branches in the tree. Use Expand all to open everything.
  3. Type in the search box to find keys or values. Matching branches open automatically.
  4. Click a node to see its path, then copy the path or the value.

When it helps

  • Reading a large API response
  • Finding where a value lives in a nested document
  • Copying a JSONPath into code or a test

Frequently asked questions

How do I view a JSON file as a tree?

Paste the JSON into the input pane or open the file. The tree appears straight away. Click a branch to expand it, or use Expand all.

Can the viewer open large JSON files?

Yes. Branches are only drawn when you open them and long lists load in steps, so files of several megabytes stay responsive. Everything happens in your browser.

How do I copy the path to a value?

Click the node in the tree. The path, such as $.items[0].price, appears under the tree with Copy path and Copy value buttons.

Is my JSON uploaded to a server?

No. Parsing and display happen in your browser tab. Your data is not sent anywhere.
