What does the JSON Diff & Compare do?
A JSON diff compares two JSON documents by structure, not by text, and lists every value that was added, removed or changed with its path. Key order and whitespace are ignored, so only real differences appear.
How to use the JSON Diff & Compare
- Paste the original JSON on the left and the modified JSON on the right.
- Read the Changes tab: each row shows a path with the old and new value.
- Use the options to ignore array order or letter case. Open Side by side for a text diff.
- Open JSON Patch to copy the changes as an RFC 6902 patch.
When it helps
- Checking what changed between two API responses
- Reviewing configuration changes
- Writing tests that compare expected and actual JSON
Frequently asked questions
How do I compare two JSON files?
Paste or open one file on each side. The differences are listed by path as soon as both sides are valid JSON.
Does key order matter in the comparison?
No. JSON objects have no meaningful key order, so two objects with the same keys and values match even if the keys are in a different order.
What is a JSON Patch?
JSON Patch (RFC 6902) is a standard list of add, remove and replace operations that turns one JSON document into another. The tool generates one from your diff.
Can it ignore the order of items in arrays?
Yes. Turn on Ignore array order to compare arrays as sets of items. The JSON Patch is not produced in that mode because patch positions depend on order.
